Nigeria’s Favour Ofili delivered a commanding performance at the Grand Prix Brescia in Italy on Sunday, winning the women’s 200 metres in 22.03 seconds to underline her strong form on the international athletics circuit.
Ofili produced the fastest time of the final in a wind-neutral race, finishing comfortably ahead of Jamaica’s Ashanti Moore, who clocked 22.47 seconds. Ivory Coast’s Maboundou Koné completed the podium in 22.66 seconds.
Ofili Beats Strong International Field.
The victory came against a competitive field that included American sprinters Jenna Prandini and Cambrea Sturgis, as well as Ireland’s Rhasidat Adeleke. Prandini finished fourth in 22.75 seconds, while Sturgis was fifth in 22.84. Adeleke crossed the line sixth in 22.85.
Ofili entered the competition with a 2026 season best of 22.15 seconds and a personal best of 21.96. Her 22.03 performance therefore represented a significant improvement on her season-leading mark and showed that she remains capable of competing at the highest level.
Another Strong Day for Nigeria.
Ofili’s victory was part of an impressive outing for Nigeria in Brescia. Fellow Nigerian star Tobi Amusan won the women’s 100m hurdles in 12.56 seconds, defeating American Alaysha Johnson and Jamaica’s Ackera Nugent.
The double victory gives Nigerian athletics another positive moment following a period in which the country has continued to produce athletes capable of challenging for major international honours.

For Ofili, the Brescia victory provides valuable momentum as the 2026 outdoor season moves towards its final stages. Her 22.03 seconds keeps her firmly among the leading African performers in the 200m and offers encouragement ahead of the remaining major meetings.
At 23, Ofili is entering an important phase of her career, with expectations growing around her ability to translate regular international victories into podium finishes at the biggest global championships.
