CIMFEST Awards 2026: Cameroon’s Music Industry Enters the Race for Recognition.

Dr Bless Phanuel

The race for recognition in Cameroon’s music industry is gaining momentum as the CIMFEST Awards 2026 open public voting, giving fans an opportunity to support their favourite artists, producers, DJs, music promoters and other industry professionals ahead of the awards ceremony in Buea.

The awards form part of CIMFEST26, which will take place across Buea and Limbe from November 23 to 30. With 21 categories covering different parts of the music ecosystem, the initiative seeks to celebrate the artists and industry figures contributing to the growth and visibility of Cameroonian music.

Voting opened on October 5 through CliqVotes and is scheduled to remain open until November 29. The awards ceremony is listed for November 28 in Buea, making the voting period an important opportunity for artists and their supporters to mobilise audiences ahead of the celebration.

More Than a Popularity Contest.

The CIMFEST Awards extend beyond the traditional recognition of singers and hit songs. The categories include Male Artist of the Year, Female Artist of the Year, Song of the Year, Gospel Artist of the Year, Folklore Artist of the Year, Collaboration of the Year, Album of the Year and Makossa Artist of the Year.

The awards also recognise people working behind the scenes and helping artists build their careers. Producer of the Year, Video Director of the Year, Artist Manager of the Year, Music Promoter of the Year and Entertainment Host of the Year are among the categories, alongside recognition for DJs, dance groups, fan clubs and diaspora artists.

The inclusion of these categories reflects the many contributors involved in developing a music career. Beyond the performer, producers shape the sound, video directors develop the visual identity, managers coordinate professional activities, and promoters help music reach new audiences.

For an industry seeking stronger commercial structures and wider recognition, celebrating these contributions can help bring greater attention to the people whose work often receives less visibility than that of headline artists.

Artists and Fans Prepare for the Voting Race.

The public voting process gives fans a direct role in choosing their preferred nominees. Supporters can visit the official CIMFEST Awards campaign on CliqVotes, select a category, choose a nominee and follow the platform’s instructions to cast their votes.

The published campaign already features familiar names in the Male Artist of the Year category, including Cysoul, King Luca and Locko. The wider awards programme covers established acts as well as emerging talent, industry professionals and music communities.

As voting progresses, artists and their supporters are likely to use social media to encourage participation and increase visibility. For nominees, the campaign offers an opportunity to engage their fan bases, reconnect with listeners and bring attention to their recent work.

However, the significance of the awards will depend on more than the number of people mobilised online. Transparent voting procedures, clear communication and confidence in the final results will be important to ensuring that the recognition carries credibility across the industry.

CIMFEST Builds a Wider Platform for Cameroonian Creativity.

The awards are one component of CIMFEST26, a festival that combines live music with business networking, innovation, exhibitions and community initiatives. Its programme includes the Music Business Network in Buea on November 23 and 24, followed by other festival experiences across Buea and Limbe.

The broader approach places music within a wider conversation about employment, entrepreneurship, cultural identity and the creative economy. Festivals can create opportunities for performers, sound engineers, vendors, event organisers and other businesses, while bringing artists and audiences together beyond their usual markets.

For Cameroonian music, these platforms also provide opportunities to build stronger professional networks and encourage collaboration between artists, producers, promoters and distribution services.

As the CIMFEST Awards voting period continues, the immediate focus is on the nominees and the fans backing them. The ceremony in Buea will provide the next major moment for the awards, with the winners expected to be determined through the published process.

For now, the message to music fans is clear: the voting race is underway, and the choices made during this period will shape which artists and industry contributors receive recognition at CIMFEST26.
