Tanzania has reached a historic milestone in its sporting journey with the official opening of the Tanzania Cricket Arena (TCA Arena), the country’s first International Cricket Council (ICC) approved cricket stadium.
Located in Dar es Salaam, the state of the art facility is expected to become a major hub for cricket development in East Africa and a key venue for international competitions. The stadium was officially inaugurated by ICC Chairman Jay Shah, who described the project as a landmark achievement for cricket in Tanzania and across the African continent.
A Historic Day for Tanzanian Cricket
The opening of the TCA Arena marks the first time Tanzania has had a cricket venue officially recognised by the ICC.
The facility will serve as the national high performance centre for Tanzanian cricket while providing modern training facilities for players, coaches and match officials. It is also expected to host matches during the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup Challenge League B, further raising Tanzania’s profile in international cricket.
ICC Backs Cricket Growth in Africa
Speaking during the inauguration, ICC Chairman Jay Shah praised Tanzania’s commitment to developing the sport, saying the new arena demonstrates what can be achieved through vision, collaboration and sustained investment.
He noted that the venue represents an important step in expanding cricket beyond its traditional markets and strengthening the game’s presence across Africa.
Boost for East African Sport
The new stadium is expected to benefit not only Tanzania but the wider East African region.
By hosting international tournaments and regional competitions, the TCA Arena will provide local players with greater exposure to elite competition while encouraging youth participation in cricket.
Sports officials believe the facility will also attract coaching programmes, umpire development courses and cricket academies, helping to raise the standard of the game throughout the region.
Looking Ahead
With the TCA Arena now operational, Tanzania is positioning itself as an emerging destination for international cricket.
The stadium is expected to play a central role in the country’s long term sporting ambitions, while supporting the ICC’s wider strategy of growing cricket across new markets.
For Tanzanian cricket, the opening of the country’s first ICC approved stadium is more than an infrastructure achievement. It is a statement that the nation is ready to compete on a bigger international stage.
